My ode to the one of the greatest superhero teams ever assembled on page, and the greatest comic book movie ever made…thus far. Enjoy.
Thank you Randy Ross. Yeah, you buddy. You’re undying need to be the best engineer and producer in the universe continues to allow you to listen to shit that I wouldn’t normally even be paying attention to. Granted, sometimes I hate you for making me listen to some of the CD’s you purchase and listen to all for the sake of “research” (Brittany Spears and Lady Gaga? Really?). But every once and a while you pull out a gem. So thanks. Now make me a beat. Please.
I listen to a lot of other stuff aside from Hip Hop. Honest. Its just not a lot of NEW stuff. Classic rock, Motown-era soul and r&b, blues & jazz. Not to the extent of being aficionado status with any, but when I’m tired of rap, I don’t listen to a lot of NEW music. Then Randy showed me some stuff from Gotye and Fun. And I’m hooked. Making Mirrors by Gotye is that new age Joshua Tree. He echoes of Peter Gabriel so much, and momma raised me on Pete and Sting. I love that stuff. Its new, but has a very reminiscent feeling of when mom and dad would actually be together doing good, and things were happy, and the 8-piece component stereo set-up was bumpin with the front door open in the summer time.
Fun is, well, fun. At times, lead singer Nate Ruess sounds like Freddy Mercury, particularly when he gets the choir layers and progressive build up going. The music is very worldly, from one minute being layered with big drums sounding like a Lion King tribute, to classical piano and violin, over to big band march. Its all over the map. And…its fun.
Go ahead. Late pass me. Some of you will probably already be familiar with these artists, and maybe have been for years. But I don’t care. I’m new. I’m just gettin “hip”, if you will. I’m still cool. Right?
If you’re a noob to em, like me, check out the below video’s…then go buy their shit…
